AD to DNS Resolution

    Question

  • Ok...Here's the issue:

While using SCCM, there are some systems in the environment that can't receive the SCCM agent.  This is due to the fact that the AD name that SCCM is referencing is shorter than the actual DNS A record for this device.  Basically, the "pre-windows 2000" or common name is limited to 16 characters and the actual DNS entry is longer.  How can I rectify this issue without having to rename over 800 DNS entries?

  • If there isn't any resolution & accessibility issues on dns and dc replications, you should not change config on DNS(hostnames,entires,etc.).You need to check the resolution on SCCM side.
