Screen turns off and PC Sleeps even though the option is turned to NEVER RRS feed

    This is weird and is affecting two of my Win7 Home Premium machines.
    In power options, I have set the "Turn off the display" to "Never", and "Put the computer to sleep" to "Never".
    On PC A, it would still turn off the screen and went to sleep after some time of inactivity.
    On PC B, it would turn off the screen, but did not went to sleep after some time of inactivity.
    Why is this happening even though both options were set to "Never"?

    This is related to the power management that is controlled by ACPI. The root cause can be hardware compatibility. Please download the latest BIOS and video adapter driver for the computers.

    However, since currently most drivers are for Windows Vista, if the issue is not resolved by the new drivers, we may need to wait for compatible drivers from the manufacturers.

    As strange as it may seem (but no guarantee) if you have a graphics chipset or video card it may be that your video driver is not 100% compatible with the windows 7 API. Force updating the video driver from the manufacturer's web site may improve performance.

    Check to see if the Screen Saver is still enabled (to display the Blank screen saver).

    I too ran into this issue. Upon running ProcMon.exe and looking extensively at what was going on I discovered the culprit to be winsat.exe. In researching on why this would cause my display to turn off I discovered that winsat is scheduled to run in task scheduler when the computer is in the idle state. When it runs it changes the active power plan to "High Performance". I had created my own ppwer plan and the default "High Performance" plan was set to turn off display after 15 min. Since the system was already in the idle state for 15 min when winsat changed the plan the display automatically turned off. Upon disabling the scheduled task I no longer have the issue. You could also probably change the "High Performance" plan to never fall asleep.

    1. Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Task Scheduler
    2. Browse to Microsoft\Windows\Maintenance
    3. Select “WinSAT” task
    4. Under “Actions” choose “Disable”.
