msi or exe for sequencing RRS feed

  • what will be the right choice for sequencing an app that has msi and exe?

  • What do you mean?  Its an exe that extracts an MSI?

    You could run through it once, and check what is actually running in task manager.  What I would probably do in the sequencer is just run it normally and double click whatever file (sounds like the exe) you have.

    You can always cleanup the capture later.

  • There is no right answer for that because all applications are different.

    Generally speaking, I try to use the MSI if possible.  Usually the EXE will install prereqs that are required for the applications, so you might need to run that or install the prereqs locally on the machine.

    Sometimes the EXE just extracts an MSI, and if you can keep that extraction off your sequencer, it creates a cleaner package.

    But there is no right or wrong answer for this question...
