Epson 785 EPX problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I was having problems printing to an Epson 785EPX printer that's plugged into a Windows XP Pro box from a Vista Home Premium 64 bit laptop.  I'm attaching as \\ipaddress of the xp box\printer name.  It sees the printer, but gives me an error when trying to install the driver.

I went to Epson's website.  The didn't have a downloadable driver for my OS, but they did say that it was supported "in the box."

I plugged in the printer directly to the Vista laptop and was able to plug-and-play the printer just fine.  I also printed a test page.

I then disconnected the printer and reconnected it to the XP Pro desktop.  I tried attaching the printer and it's not able to install the printer driver again.  Is there any way to figure out where the driver file is that it used to print when I was physically connected to the printer?

Is the problem because I'm trying to print from Vista 64 bit to XP 32 bit?

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

The following steps can help you to install a shared printer.

    Add a shared printer

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Printers.

    2. On Keyboard press Alt, then click File->Run as administrator->Add Printer.

When UAC window pops up, click Continue to go on.

    3. Select "Add a local printer".

    4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port.

    5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format.

\\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer]

    Then click Next.

Please note that we should use share name, but not the printer name of the printer.

    6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation. During installing, choose the correct driver (Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX) in the driver list.

    Is the issue resolved?

If it persists, I suggest that you disable the anti-virus and firewall in both computers, and try to install the printer again.

If the issue remained, please let me know the system versions of the two computers. Also please let me know if file sharing works properly.
