Hyper V cannot Recognize USB Drives RRS feed

  • Question

  • I cannot get HyperV to recognize a USB drive in Virtual Machines running W10, W7 and XP (all pro versions). I have tried every suggestion on the forums. Several tell me to be sure that the USB drive is offline, however this cannot be done with either the disk manager or Diskpart as both report that this operation is not available for removable drives. The host machine is a Dell Precision running W10 Pro (Ver 1607 Bld 14393,1198). I have tried through the Hyper V console; It will not allow me to add a physical drive as the option is grayed out. I have tried through RDP and that does not work either. I have a VM that does not have a network connection for security reasons. I need to use a USB stick to get files in and out. I get the same negative results regardless of the VM operating system therefore the problem must be in either the Hyper V console or the host machine.

    Any suggestions?
