snap shots

Question

hi,
i am new to hyper V (vmware) but coming around to quite liking it. One thing seems to be the lack of info and best practices that is out there for the product.
Does anybody what retrictions are in place if if do snap shots, i.e. can i live migrate with snapshot, can i export machine with a snap shot?
Does anybody know of a place where all this kind of stuf is documented. An admin giude, advanced guide for hyper v. Vmware has some great docs so i am a little supprised that i can find any for MS or can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Hi,
If you want to use snapshot, you should know how the snapshots work. For more information, you can refer to:

Virtual Machine Snapshotting under Hyper-V
General speaking, it is not recommend that you use snapshots in production environment. You can refer to the following blog.
Should virtual machine snapshots be used in production?
By the way, you can export the VM with snapshot, however, if you move the exported VM to a different version of Hyper-V computer, you may can’t revert the snapshots.
In addition, please don’t use snapshots with Live Migration. For more information, you can refer to:
Snapshots and running virtual machines
You should avoid taking a snapshot of a running virtual machine. If you revert back to a snapshot of a running virtual machine, the memory state is restored in addition to the disk. Before reverting a clustered virtual machine back to a snapshot, you should first shut down the virtual machine from Failover Cluster Manager, take a snapshot of the virtual machine, and restart the virtual machine.

I would think best practice was to not use snapshots at all in a production environment.
