how Power BI report server can use RLS feature implemented in SQL Server database RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I am using Power BI report server in my organization and asked to design a report which give user a limited view based on there permission on the data. We have RLS feature implemented on underling SQL Server database. I want to know does Power BI uses current login user credential to access database.  if yes then the RLS implemented on DB should work with DirectQuery in power BI reporting and extract only the limited accesed to the user. if not then how can we provide data limited access on power BI server report. Please advice

Answers

  • Hi Shanu. Power BI uses whatever credentials a user specifies when connecting. If a user specifies Windows->"Use my current credentials", then Power BI will use the credentials they are currently logged in with, and SQL RLS should provide each user a limited, secure view of the data.
