Windows 7 Hangs at Logon screen / welcome screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

       I don't know what's wrong with my windows 7 copy, it hangs at these senarios:

    1) at the logon screen with user accounts to choose with, if i didn't choose any user account to login aftera while.

    2) at the welcome screen after i chose a user acount to login;

    3) after the welcome screen proceeds into my desktop. sometimes it hangs here after loading windows gadgets , before my kaspersky internet security2010 loaded. The desktop icons can have the selection effect when you mouse over it, just that you cannot execute the program.

    Can someone provide me some steps to diagnostic this issue? this is really driving me nutz. Sometimes I had to use 1 hour to successfully login into my PC. Login success is like 1 time of every 15 tries.

  • Hi,

    make sure you have the service Superfetch running and next try to speed up the boot with the help of my guide [1]. This trains the advanced prefetcher in Windows 7. This increase the boot performance a lot. All other tweaking tools are useless. Only use this method with this Microsoft Toolkit.

    If this doesn't speed up the boot process, follow my guide [2] to make a boot trace and compress the boot_BASE+CSWITCH+DRIVERS+POWER_1.etl as 7z or RAR and upload it to your Skydrive [3] and post the link here.

    I take a look at the trace, maybe I see what's wrong with your Windows.

  • The issue can be caused by confliction from startup items that start at session 0. I suggest you boot in Clean Boot Mode to troubleshoot.

    Perform a clean startup to determine whether background programs are interfering with your game or program
