  • Question

  • I have Windows 7 64 bit and it comes with Internet Explorer 8 32 bit as the default web browser which is incompitible with 64 bit. The 64 bit version cannot be set as the default browser so I have to use firefox as default because some apps use the default browser to launch. Firefox crashes a lot also. I have found in the error logs that no matter what the exe that fails the exception code is almost allways 0xc0000005. Here is an short example: Faulting application name: iexplore.exe, version: 8.0.7600.16700, time stamp: 0x4cd23213
Faulting module name: iertutil.dll, version: 8.0.7600.16700, time stamp: 0x4cd24704
    Exception code: 0xc0000005

This exception code is prevalent in most errors. It's a common link to errors. The information that I have found for this exception is very vague I was hoping somebody could clear it up without being unclear.

    thanks

Sorry, that is *not* correct. 64-bit Windows 7 comes with *both*
    32-bit IE8 ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe")
    and 64-bit IE8 ("C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe").

Moreover, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE8 are compatible
with 64-bit Windows 7 and will run under it.

  • I have many problems on this machine I have AMD looking into a problem. I had Electronic Arts looking into a problem which ended up being the graphics chip being incompatibile (the AMD problem). Adobe problems mostly with the reader won't install. Firefox crashes constantly. IE8 64 bit seems to be working good. I am afraid to buy software for this system because I don't know if it will run. I installed Modern warfare demo it failed at the end of the install but it did run the game demo. I installed The Whitcher I got it to work after several attempts. The EA game is Dragon Age Origins($30.00 down the drain) which never ran(AMD problem). Never had a BSOD on this machine. Did reinstall 1 time same problems though. I do have the OEM version of Windows 7.

I am sorry I meant to imply that IE8 32 bit can't be set as a defult web browser. Internet explorer will not run on this machine. On a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit Internet explorer 32 bit crashes immediately on startup with this error:   Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
