Resources on Completed Projects not released RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using Project Server 2010, we have a project that is 100% done. All Tasks and Completed Work is at 100%. The last date of the last task is also in the past. Nothing more needs to be done with this project.

So, now we have a new project with many of the same resources in it. When we look at a resource in this new project that also happened to work in that old project and get a list of their work hours (allocation) there is always an entry at the bottom "Other projects and commitments". These are hours from that past, completed project. So everyone's hours are inflated.

We're struggling to figure out how to get final closure on that old project (without archiving it off the server) so allocation figures on the new project don't include anything from past projects. Where are we going wrong? Thanks.

  • Hi Lundwall,

As far as I understand your concern, everything is normal. Since the completed project is in the draft/publish databases of Project Server, if you check the options "load summary resources assignments" while opening MS Project Pro, it will retreive any work for the resources of the given project, even completed work. If you want not to see anymore the completed projects' assignments/work, then you need to archived them using theout-of-the-box archive process or a custom method.

See references below for archiving a project without deleting it from the draft/published DB:

    Hope this helps,
