backup database without printing "Processed ## pages for database ..." RRS feed

  • Question

  • We use a stored procedure to run our backups.  Every once in a while it will fail, usually due to lack of space.  The problem is any time it does fail, the history of the job is useless in determining what the error was due to the backup printing a line for every file that was processed for every database.  I realize I could write my own log or output the results to a log, but what I would really like to do is turn off this output, but so far I have not found any way to do so.  Anyone know how?

  • If you are using a SQL Agent Job to run the task, you have the option of logging to a file and/or a table if the 'step output in history' option is insufficient.
I vaguely remember that there is a way to increase the number of lines logged for the history option, but it doesn't spring to mind, and was possibly a hack!
