Using WOL without turning on broadcasting RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am currently trying to deploy applications and software updates from SCCM 2012 R2 using WOL. However I would like to deploy to clients that are on different subnets. If there a way to do this without turning on broadcasting? I have one Site Server. I am able to successfully deploy to a client on the same subnet as the server.

    Thank You.

  • First, I assume that you mean subnet-directed broadcast and not "broadcasting" -- they really are two different things.

Next, you can use unicast. This documentation is from ConfigMgr 2007 but still applicable: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693568.aspx

  • Subnet-Directed Broadcast is what I meant. I should have clarified a little bit more. Thank you for pointing that out. I am going to check into the link that you provided.

  • Hi,
As Jason wrote yes you can use Unicast not you will see less success in clients beeing started if you don't tweak the ARP Cache in routers/switches.  Here is a great post on WoL.  www.aitltd.com/2017/03/17/wake-on-lan-in-SCCM/
