Exchange 2010 restore disabled mailboxes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello!

PS script with Disable-mailbox cmdlet and incorrect parameters was run by accident over whole company AD/Exchange 2010 database. As a result - all company exchange mailboxes now are in disabled state (incl system mailboxes).

We are tried to enable it using Connect-mailbox cmdlet (connect-mailbox -database -identy) but got some odd results:

    - mailboxes of some regular users enabled are not functional at all: Outlook always request a name/password and can't access mailboxes.

    - mailbox of administrator (Domain Admin/Enterprise Admin/Exchange Admin) is partially funtional. It can access mailbox, can receive/send mail but can't access public folders - error "server on maintenance" appears (calendars and other features not tested) . Sometimes name/password request is also appears in notification area (not affects the mailbox access).

Also it looks like after disabling mailboxes many Exchange related AD attributes of various system accounts are gone.

Could you please give me a hint (if it possible in such situation) or answer the following questions:

    - why mailboxes reenabled with connect-mailbox commandlet are still unusable?

    - which the right way to restore disabled mailboxes in such case?

    - is it possible to restore/recreate missed AD atributes of system accounts (where and how to get it)?

    All suggestions are welcome.

Looking forward for your reply and with best regards,

    Sergey

  • You havent said what SP and RU Exchange is at, but try running clean-mailboxdatabase against all the mailbox databases and see if people can access their mailboxes after that.

Elevated accounts that have domain admin/enterprise admin rights should not be mailbox-enabled regardless.

  • Yep, Clean-mailboxDatabase helps a lot.
