SSP Server Name Mapping RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a Web Application called http://my-authoring.site.com (Default zone) which was extended to http://my.site.com (Internet Zone) for general public access.

The SSP has a content source pointing to http://my.site.com, but the links in the results appear as http://my-authoring.site.com.

I've added a Server Mapping (SS Administratio > SSP1 > Search Administratio > Server Name Mappings) on the SSP with the following content:

    Addres in index: http://my-authoring.site.com

    Address in search results: http://my.site.com

I've done a full crawl, but the results are still the same (http://my-authoring.site.com/*).

    What am I missing?

    Thanks in advance,

    GAR

I've tried to use wildcards also with no success:

    Addres in index: http://my-authoring.site.com/*

    Address in search results: http://my.site.com/*

    Any ideas?

  • Hi ,

I understand that you extent the default zone web application to an internet zone for public access .You want the address in the search result to be the public address .But it always point to the default zone .Please have a look at the Alternate Access Mapping .What is the public url for the default zone ? Is it set to http://my.site.com ?

You can access the alternate access mapping like this: Central Administration>Operations>Alternate access mapping .

For more information about the Alternate access mapping and server name mapping ,please refer to this site:

  • Hi,

The URL for the default zone is http://my-authoring.site.com. I think this is the cause of my problem in the first place. To complicate things I cannot change this because there is customized code wich uses the zone label.

    Do you have any solution?

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

I've just tried to replicate the problem on a VM but it just works as expected:

    Authoring Site: http://my-authoring.site.com

    Public Site: http://my.site.com

Added a content source with the public address (http://my.site.com) in the SSP and made a full crawl.

When I do a search on the public site the results appear with the public link and when I do the search on the authoring site the results appear with the authoring site link as they should.

I haven't even had the need to add a Server Mapping.

The problematic Sharepoint farm is on version 12.0.0.6535 and my test environment is on version 12.0.0.6554. May this explain the different results?

    Any help is welcome

    Thanks

    GAR

  • Hi,

I've reset all crawled content and re-indexed all my content sources but still no success.

    Any ideas?
