2012 R2 DPM Storage pool full RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Expert,

I am running 2012 R2 SC DPM, UR 9 for backup solution. I noticed the short term storage pool was run out of space because the recovery point was not deleted when retention period expired. earlier it has 900 recovery point for most of jobs and now it is about 30, I also modify the retention period from 15 days to 10 days, and reduced the full backup & Sync frequency, however no matter what I have done, the disk space is not reclaimed, I even download the tools from MS one drive to auto shrink all possible disk space, the power scripts ran, however no disk claimed.

The PS I ran on the system:

    Remove_RecoveryPoint.ps1

    RemoveAllRecoverypoints_Days.ps1

    pruneshadowcopiesDpm.ps1

    pruneshadowcopiesDpm2010.ps1

    shrink-diskpart-1.10.ps1

What else I can do to reclaim back my storage pool space? Really run out of idea, many thanks for any assistance

    Wang

  • Hi,

You can manually remove old backups:

    $pgList = Get-ProtectionGroup dpm
    $pgList | ft -auto
    $a = read-host “Select Protection Group (0, 1, 2 3 …)”
    $dslist = get-datasource $pglist[$a]
    $dslist | ft -auto
    $b = read-host “Select System (0, 1, 2 3 …)”
    $rplist=get-recoverypoint -Datasource $dslist[$b]
    $rplist | ft -auto
    $c = read-host “Select Recovery Point to be deleted (0, 1, 2 3 …)”
    remove-recoverypoint -recoverypoint $rplist[$c] -confirm

After this actions you have to shrink volume.

    But this way very annoying

I prefer to recover some backups to other place and then delete backups. After that create new backup job.
