Sharepoint 2007 retrieving values from another list RRS feed

  • Hi 

    I have two lists List a and List B

    Whenever a new item is created in  list B ,  i want few columns to be updated based on List A.

    No new items would be created in List A

    How can this be done.

    Can it be done through Lookup or calculated column or Workflow a

    Please share a step by step procedure how to perform this action

  • Hi,

    you have many options to do that, let me explain these

    1- Lookup columns : you can create lookup column in list A, to get data from list B. ex, in List A you have Column Department and you want to get these values in List B as dropdownlist or checkList. you can do this by lookupcolumn.

    2- EventReceiver : if you want to update columns in List A , based on New values in List B. u can develop Event receiver for editing or adding an item then bind it with List A.
