Can't Migrate Task Sequences That Contain MDT Tasks RRS feed

  • Question

  • Upgrading from ConfigMgr 2007 to 2012.  Migrating all the collections and objects.  Some of the task sequences are failing because they contain three particular MDT steps: Use Toolkit Package, Gather, and Validate.  When I remove these three steps I can migrate it just fine but the problem is that the task sequence is currently being used and it will be a while before the upgrade is complete so we need to keep migrating updated objects.  If I make a copy of the task sequence in 2007 and migrate it, the object is no longer linked back to the original task sequence.  So if any changes are made to the original task sequence it won't be reflected in the task sequence that I've migrated over.

In essence what I'm saying is that my preference would be to fix whatever problem is causing me to not be able to migrate these task sequences over.  MDT 2012 is installed on both the 2007 site server and the 2012 site server.  I've tried re-creating those particular MDT steps.  I've tried creating a brand new MDT task sequence that contains those steps.  Either way migration fails.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • It's not supported to migrate MDT task sequences as far as I know. You can migrate them if you remove the steps you mentioned.

  • Yeah, all signs seem to be pointing that direction.  Okay, thanks very much, Torsten.
