Auto upgrade from Win 8.1 Pro to Win 10

Question

When I did the auto-upgrade from Win 8.1 Pro to Win 10 it installed Win 10 Home not Win 10 Pro. Why?
Is there any way to upgrade without losing all of my apps and data?

As long as you didn't clean out the windows.old folder, you should be able to roll back to Windows 8.1 by going to Settings ->Update and Security.

What do you mean by "auto-upgrade"? If you mean an upgrade using Windows Update, all of your files and programs should still be there (and 8.1 Pro should upgrade to 10 Pro).
If you mean something else, how exactly did you do the upgrade?

I signed up to receive Win 10 when it became available. When I received the email indicating all I had to do was click to download the update. I did that and the setup took over and performed the upgrade. Unfortunately it upgraded from 8 Pro to 10 Home. (No problem with aps or data.).
"(and 8.1 Pro should upgrade to 10 Pro)" It didn't.

Try using the media creation tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 to perform the update.

I assume that I will first have to go back to Win 8.1 Pro. How do I do that without losing my aps and data?

Hi,
How is the current situation?
Have you upgrade successfully using the Creation Media Tool? If you perform the upgrade not clean installation, you could keep most of apps However, some app, like some security software or device driver may not working fine in Windows 10, you need reinstall them again after upgrade.
