CAN'T ACCESS SYSTEM INFORMATION RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I attempt to access my computer's System Information it says:

    Cannot Collect Information
Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows
Management files may be moved or missing.

How can I retrieve the System Information? Can it be done without a system restore?

  • This behavior can occur if files in the %SystemRoot%System32WbemRepository(C:\windows\system32\wbem\repository)
    folder become corrupted.

    TO resolve:

    click start>control panel>administrative tools>services

    find "Windows management instrumentation" service
Right click and select stop, dont close this application at the moment

locate the "repository folder" in C:\windows\system32\wbem\repository
Then delete folder...........( after reboot WINXP will recreate folder and files anyway)

after delete open "services" again and restart "Windows management instumentation"

    Then Reboot

    Should work just fine

  • Thanks that solved the problem.

The only problem I had was that I needed to stop the service Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Service (ICS) before I stopped Windows Management Instrumentation.
