  • Question

  • I am a student and I was given the assignment of finding the appropriate answers to the following questions by any means that I can.  I have looked at many sites and forums but I am unable to find the answers that I am seeking.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Adobe has released a new version of Adobe Reader (9.3.1) that needs to be installed on all computers (about 400) that currently have any version of Adobe Reader installed.  Explain how you would test this update to ensure that all computers would update successfully.  There is no need to explain how to deploy the update.

  • I did a quick research and found this in the registry:

    64-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat
    32-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat

    There are some information you can check there to see if correct version is installed.

    You can also gather data via WMI and query the win32_product-class:

    PS C:\Windows\system32> gwmi win32_product | where { $_.Name -match "Adobe" }
    IdentifyingNumber : {AC76BA86-1033-0000-7760-000000000004}
    Name : Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
    Vendor            : Adobe Systems
    Version           : 9.3.1
    Caption : Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

    With Powershell you can also uninstall programs through WMI.

    Hope this can be useful :)
