Hyper V Versions, Planning Migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone I have a question regarding Hyper-V versions on 2008 Sp2 and 2008 R2. I currently have a 3 node cluster for Hyper V residing on server 2008 R2 core. I also have a server running 2008 SP2 running Hyper V. I've tested migrating Virtual Machines from 2008 R2 to the cluster using SCVMM 2008 R2 and it works fine. My question is will I run into any problems migating Virtual Machines from Server 2008 SP2 to the Cluster which is running 2008 R2 Core?

    Here are my versions:
    Server 2008 SP2 Hyper V = 6.0.6002.18005
    Server 2008 R2 Core Hyper V = 6.1.7600.16385

I get a message regarding the version conflicts in SCVMM but it says I can migrate them as long as I shut them down and delete any saved state information.

Will I have any issues with this? Please advise..

  • All done!

I had to delete all snapshots and Shutdown the VM and wait for the "Merge in Progress" to complete before I could migrate to the R2 cluster. I'm able to Live migrate and do everything now.

    Thanks guys
