When DC Refresh is executed against a Russian, Chinese or Japanese App-V 4.5 Server with an App-V 4.5 client in a different lang RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • When DC Refresh is executed against a Russian, Chinese or Japanese App-V 4.5 Server with an App-V 4.5 client in a different language, applications and FTAs will not be loaded onto the Client

    Symptoms

    =============================

    When a DC Refresh is performed against a Russian, Chinese or Japanese AppV 4.5 Server from an  App-V 4.5 client in a different language, the applications and FTAs are not loaded onto the client machine.  If you  perform the same DC Refresh from  a client in the same language as the App-V 4.5, it works fine.  This happens on both secure and non-secure channels. No  errors are returned on the client.

    Cause

    =============================

    If the hostname of the App-V 4.5 server  or the Content share names contain international characters not recognized by the client operating system, the client will be unable to access the network location.

    This is a known limitation with Windows.

    Repro Steps

    =============================

    1. Install an AppV 4.5 server in Russian with non-EU characters in the name, such as \\лт-2л3кг\.

    2. Configure an English AppV 4.5 client to refresh against the server from Step 1.

    3. The refresh operation will appear to succeed but no Applications or FTA's will be pubished to the client.
