windows 8 pro upgrade to 8.1 but no Pro version RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Dell E7440 laptop that came with Windows 8 pro. I went to the Store and run the 8.1 upgrade. It took a long time but upgrade was success, but I found out it is not the pro version. Looks like Microsoft downgrade my version. I called Dell support and they told me to run a recovery and try again. I do not want to waste any other 6 to 8 hours.  What is my option? Should I contact Microsoft and complaint?

    Please help.

  • How did you find that you have a win 8.1 (Basic) now? Are you able to use Hyper-V or Bitlocker in your PC? These are win8.1 pro features which are not included in win8.1 basic.

For confirmation, please press win+R, in the “Run” dialog box, type slmgr.vbs /dlv to view the licensing status of your windows installation.

If this is a win8.1 basic, then you can run the MGADiag tool to check if there some activation issue.

Or check cbs log in windows\Logs\cbs to check if anything happened during the upgrade period.
