Cannot export from Outlook and related issues

When I try to export from Outlook, I get all the way through the set-up process, but after the export begins it does not complete, the progress bar gets to approx 90% and then stays there. Task Manager indicates that Outlook had stopped running. I tried exporting to different formats (excel, DOS, etc) but exactly the same problem occured - export started but did not complete because Outlook had stopped running.
I reviewed the problems history and the cause was AppHangB1 but the application involved varied - Explorer, Outlook, PowerManager, and others. The location ID in each case was 1033 - a location which has been problematic in the past after downloading an early version of SP1. I then took each of the following steps, none of which has made any difference to the problem. I reinstalled the latest SP1, ran a scan to confirm the absence of any threats (all clean), ran a microsoft tune-up.
