Unable to delete files from Vista Home Premium - Explorer freezes every time RRS feed

  • Question

  • I haven't been able to delete anything on my Vostro 1500 laptop (running Vista Home Premium) for a while.  I can copy things to it, and I can delete the files by using the command prompt, but that's it.

    Any ideas?

    Also, a game, Continuum, won't run.  BioShock works fine though.  I click the icon for Continuum and nothing happens.

  • Toby,

    This is the "kill a fly with a sledgehammer" approach, but it should work:

    1. Start->Control Panel->User Accounts and Family Safety->User Accounts->[Your Account]

    2. Look for the "Turn User Account Control on or off" llink.  Click it.

    3. A dialolg opens with a single checkbox item named "Use User Access Control (UAC) to help

    protect your computer".  If it's checked (and it should be), uncheck it.

    4. Reboot your computer.

    5. Delete the, previously undeletable, folder(s) or file(s).

    6. The "Security Badge" icon should be sitting in your taskbar system tray.  Click it.

    Follow the directions to reassert UAC.  If the badge is not in your tray, use the procedure

    in steps 1-3, above, but this time check the checkbox in the UAC dialog window.

    5. Reboot your computer (yes, again).

    6. Done!

    Hope this helps!
