Agent install error on Win8 Client - Protection Agent cannot be Installed on machine where DPM is installed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am getting the following error doing a manual Agent install on Windows 8 x64 machine:

MSI (c) (10:0C) [17:10:57:710]: Product: Microsoft System Center 2012 SP1 DPM Protection Agent -- Protection Agent cannot be Installed on machine where DPM is installed

The machine was experiencing the vssrequestor.dll error as resolved in this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/dataprotectionmanager/thread/c4a7cbeb-53fa-492f-b300-9f6b7a0f441f

As I didn't have another Windows 8 machine to copy the vssrequestor.dll file from (from server 2012 didn't work) I uninstalled the agent and then tried to do a manual reinstall (I can't push from DPM due as it thinks it is already installed).

Here are some sections from the MSDPMAgentInstall.LOG

  • Hi,

It looks like you are trying to install the RU1 agent (4.0.3322.0).

You need to install the SP1 agent (4.0.3313.0) from under the C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\ProtectionAgents\RA\4.1.3313.0 folder.

  • Hi!

With my fresh installed DPM 2012 SP1 server I also has this problem.

I've resolved it using DPMAgentIntaller_x64.exe file located on DPM 2012 SP1 DVD - in directory SCDPM\Agents . Next step was update DPM agent using DPM 2012 SP1 Management Console.

    Regards
