Page error - The file or folder name contains characters that are not permitted. Please use a different name. RRS feed

  • Hi all,

    While trying to create a new page or opening an existing page throws error” The file or folder name contains characters that are not permitted.  Please use a different name."

    Below mentioned is the page directive used within the page layout.

    <%@ Reference VirtualPath="~masterurl/custom.master" %>

    <%@ Page language="C#" MasterPageFile= Base_Template1.master inherits="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartPage, Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" meta:progid="SharePoint.WebPartPage.Document" %>

    The MasterPageFile attribute for the Page directive seems to be incorrect, which cause the issue to happen.

    Please change it to the following one to fix the issue.
    <%@ Page language="C#" MasterPageFile=~site/_catalogs/masterpage/Base_Template1.master inherits="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartPage, Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" meta:progid="SharePoint.WebPartPage.Document" %>
