SCCM 2012 R2 and Windows 2012 R2 - All in one Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

The idea is to install a SCCM 2012 R2 solution in only one server.

The desired functionality is the following:

    • HW/SW inventory
    • Update deployment
    • OS Deployment (using PXE)
    • Compliance Settings
    • Remote Control

The following article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx states the following:

Windows Server 2012 R2 does not support the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit 8.0 (Windows ADK). For Configuration Manager SP1, the Windows ADK is a prerequisite for a computer that is a site server or that hosts an instance of the SMS Provider. Therefore, Windows Server 2012 R2 remains unsupported for use as a site server or as a host for the SMS Provider for Configuration Manager SP1 even when cumulative update 3 is installed.

But, at the "Operating System Requirements for Site Servers, Database Servers, and the SMS Provider" section, Windows 2012 R2 can support Central, Primary and Secondary sites.

    The questions are:

It is possible to install an All in one server using SCCM 2012 R2 wich OS is Windows 2012 R2?

    If no,

What components can not be installed over Windows 2012 R2(must be installed in another server wich OS is different than Windows 2012 R2)?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,

Yes, you can install Configuration Manager 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2012 R2 all in one server. That Server 2012 R2 doesn't suppport ADK 8.0 is not as issue as R2 requires ADK 8.1 which do support Server 2012 R2.

"Therefore, Windows Server 2012 R2 remains unsupported for use as a site server or as a host for the SMS Provider for Configuration Manager SP1 even when cumulative update 3 is installed."

You will not be using SP1 CU3 so you are good to go.
