Can no longer print when I upgraded from windows 8 to 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

For months I have refused Microsoft's offer to upgrade from windows 8 to windows 10 for free. But yestarday it was forced on me by Microsoft and now I can no longer print. When I try to print in Microsoft Word 2010, none on my printers are in the File -> printer listbox. So I select "add printer" and I get the error message "active directory domain services is currently unavailable".  I did some research and found (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b25b6a4f-abef-47c5-bca6-09166ee449a5/cannot-print-the-active-directory-domain-services-is-currently-unavailable?forum=w7itprohardware) that I should go to administrative tools -> computer management -> Services -> Printer Spooler and change the 'automatic' option to the 'Start'. But I found that there is no 'Start' option. But there is an 'Automatic (Start-delayed)' option. So when I selected that and then got another error message.  "delayed auto-start flag could not be set". I NEED HELP. I have wasted hours on this and my business is dead in the water. I print promotional materials for a living. I am so mad I feel like going to the Attorney Generals Office!!!

  • Hi DougSchofield,

According to your description, the service status should be Automatic. Then please check the registry permission in this article:

Also we could use the system troubleshooting tool to check. Open the Control Panel >All Control Panel Items>Troubleshooting>Hardware and Sound>Printing.

Then please try following the steps below:

    Go to Control Panel

    > Select Printers

    > Right-click on Add Printer

    > Select Run as Administrator

Now try to add your network printer.

Hope it will be helpful to you

  • Hi,

I tried Select Printers > Right-click on Add Printer, but nothing happens - no listbox appears. When I click on Add Printer I get the error message  'active directory domain services is currently unavailable'.
