Windows update error 80072EE2,in windows 7 professional client.Seeking guidance to fix this issue

  • Getting below error when tried to do windows update from windows 7 prof client.Troubleshooting steps performed below didn't fixed the issue.

    Error:An error occurred while checking for  new updates for your computer,Error code 80072EE2

    windows update client version :7.6.7601

    Steps performed:

    Method 1:

    net stop wuauserv

    ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

    net start wuauserv

    Method 2:

    Start > type cmd in start search > right click “run as administrator”.

    Ø Copy and paste the command below as given.

    net stop wuauserv - OK

    cd %systemroot% - OK

    ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old - Duplicate file found, so changed it to old2

    net start wuauserv - OK

    net stop bits - The BITS service is not started (message)

    net start bits - OK

    net stop cryptsvc - OK

    cd %systemroot%\system32 - OK

    ren catroot2 catroot2.old - Duplicate file found, so changed it to old2

    net start cryptsvc - OK

    regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s - OK

    regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s - OK

    regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s - OK

    regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s - OK

    Ø Restart the computer. Success, Windows update now working.

    Method 3:

    sfc /scannow

    • WSUS server synchronization successful from upstream server and client communication to WSUS server is verified through downloading http://mksasps1/iuident.cab  this link in client.

  • Hi Nisaj,

    We may do the following things to troubleshoot:

    1. If you use WSUS server to update, we may check the network connection between client and WSUS server, check if the WSUS server is ping-able;

    2. Check if the client could update from Microsoft Update via Internet;

    3. Check if reset windows update component on client could work

    If these steps don’t work, please go into the registry and found:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

    "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001

    We could delete the entry for UseWUServer and restarted the system.
