SCCM: In Place upgrade Win 7to win 10 1903 License issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I was working on one task sequence for In Place Upgrade. Win 10 1709 to Win 10 1903 is working fine.

But Win 7 to Win 10 1903 is getting failed during Upgrade Operating System step.

I checked some of the links and added the KMS Client Keys (NPPR9-FWDCX-D2C8J-H872K-2YT43) in upgrade operating system step.

Also added one step to run vbs script.

    Cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk NPPR9-FWDCX-D2C8J-H872K-2YT43

But Task Sequence is getting failed at this step.

Error: 0xC004F050 The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid

    Command line Cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk NPPR9-FWDCX-D2C8J-H872K-2YT43 returned 3221549136

In my environment we are using KMS and we don't have Volume license

Any advise how to resolve this issue.

  • First, please verify your version of ConfigMgr as this is a 2012 forum and 2012 does not support Win 10.

Next, You can't have a KMS with a volume license so that doesn't make sense.

Also, where in the TS are you running the script?

  • Hi,

1.May we know if you using Windows 10 Enterprise? As you are using KMS, you can leave the product key blank in Apply Windows Settings step to have a try.

If you are running the script after OS setup, please add an OSD Key task sequence step.  That step contains a task sequence variable, which is set to the key NPPR9-FWDCX-D2C8J-H872K-2YT43, to have a try.

For more detailed information for the method, please refer to the following links for your reference:

2.If it still fails, please refer to the smsts.log on the client for more detailed information:
