MDT 2012 - Best way to copy icons to dekstop after app install - Full offline deployment (USB) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Hi i'm wondering what would be the best way to copy office 2010 icons and web apps .lnk and .url to the public desktop once the apps have finished installing.

The deployment itself is being done fully from USB flash drives. So in MDT 2012 I create media and then update media and copy the all the files and folders inside to contents folder to make the bootable USB - This works file. However I need to copy desktop shortcuts to the public desktop.

What's the best way do this, I can add it as an application in MDT using a batch script (example)

    Set current directory cd0

xcopy all files *.lnk *.url to %systemroot%users\public\public desktop

Do you think that will work and will be the best approach? I have been playing about with the script but cant get it to cd and then xcopy to another location.

Would be gratful for any help.

  • Putting icons on the "desktop" is so XP. <yuck>

Create a folder with all of your *.lnk and *.url.

Import into MDT, and point to the folder as your source.

For the command line, run the command:

    cmd.exe /c copy /y * %allUsersProfile%\Desktop

The MDT ZTIApplications.wsf script will automatically CD to the correct folder, and then run the command.
