How can I disable LAN connection for one specific windows user? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to disable LAN connection for one certain standard user on laptop.

I want my daughter to have

    1. unlimited access to internet on wi-fi in library/school etc (user1 with disabled LAN)
    2. limited access (user2 with parental controls) when connected home via LAN.

    Any ideas, please?

    Windows 7 Home, Sony Vaio

    thank you, gentlemen

  • log in script -> disable nic -> check user -> if user1 do nothing -> if user2 enable nic -> check ip address -> if ipaddress = home network leave enabled -> else disable nic -> end

this will do one of 2 things.

    1) discourage your daughter from using the computer.

    2) teach your daughter how to bypass anything you try and put on the laptop.

you need a better thought process behind this.

  • Hi Cortezisko,

In advance, sorry if I misunderstand your question.

I suppose more than one account in your computer and you want to use [Parental Control].
If this is correct, please do the following:
    (1) open [Control Panel] > type "parental" (without quote) in a search area upper right of Control Panel
    (2) click [Set up parental controls for any user]

    (3) select your daughter

..... Set them as you like.

    [note]
This Parental Control can be used by an account with Administrator privilege and with password.

  • Hi Cortezisko,

I have checked if Parental Control can restrict Internet/LAN connection.
Sorry, it is not possible, but you can give limits on applications/games that she can use.
I suppose it will satisfy your needs.
