  • Hi,

I'v always go for the "remove and replace" way... I don't like upgraded versions of anything.

If you upgrade you will end up with 2 sets of installations. New machines with a fresh install, and old machines with an upgraded version.

Installing Office 2007 using GPO's (using MSI) is a real pain, and it don’t gives you a lot of options.

If you don't have SMS/ConfigMgr or a simular 3. party tool, I've recommend that you deploy Office 2007 from a startup script. Then you could use setup.exe and get the full functionality.

Use Group Policy to assign computer startup scripts for 2007 Office deployment:

For new clients in the future you could use the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), to deploy Windows and Office 2007.

    Microsoft Deployment Toolkit:

Hopefully this can help you "make your life easier" :-)

Ronni, anybody, can you help us? We'd like to push out Office 2007 using MDT in a zero touch mode automatically, and we're not sure what would trigger the installation. We have the MSO '07 "package" and it runs in Light Touch Installation mode. But I'm not seeing how to translate that into Zero Touch (ZTI) installation. We'd like to avoid having net admins having to login to each machine.

It seems to me I must be missing something in the documentation.

Thanks for any help or direction.

  • Microsoft Deployment "Zero Touch" requires System Management Server 2003 (SMS) or System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). If you don't have license for SMS/SCCM you could considder deploying Office using Group Policies.

Use Group Policy Software Installation to deploy the 2007 Office system
