Need to confirm whether a unique SID is required for Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2 virtual images RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a customer who is using cloning/templates with VMware to create/image Virtual Machines. The SID for each cloned VM IS NOT unique. My question is for installation that concern Microsoft Clustering and SQL Clustering, must the VM clones have unique SIDs for Windows to operate properly?

They seem to point that you must have a unique computer SID to avoid some possible issues and that supportability of the image requires that a SID be unique. I just want to be sure this also applies to systems on an Active Directory domain which are tied to a Microsoft Cluster.
