S4B/Skype Federation issues : Only skype directory search is working RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have enabled Skype Federation through pic.lync.com and configured our S4B servers with the required settings.

From our S4B client we can search for Skype users and add them without issues.  Only the "friend request" is never received on the other end.  Also If I search for our sip addresses from a Skype client it does not find any (this should be working also I reckon?).

At first we had a private CA for the Edge's external certificate.  I rectified that and we now use a Thawte SHA256 cert which passes the tests from the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyser (https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/) (all is green with auto-discover and manual testing).

I just don't know what to search for anymore.

We have a single Skype for Business 2015 FrontEnd and a single Edge (S4B 2015 also). The edge is configured with a single external IP with the specified settings for that setup.  Auto-Discover works as specified and all of our clients can connect (mobile, internal ,external).

I read on a few posts that sometimes there's an unspecified delay before everything starts to "click" with the Federation....? I opened up our firewalls up to "any-any" to be sure and no dice yet again.

    thank you for any pointers!

  • Hi,

Did you receive the confirm information from the PIC website? This provisioning process can take up to thirty days to complete but may take only a few days depending on the volume of requests. Also make sure enter the correct Edge information on the PIC page without mistake.

Then make sure you have applied the right external policy which enable users communicate with federation.

After that, also check the settings on the SFB Server Control Panel Federation page.

You can check with the help of the link below:

    Best Regards

  • Hi,

From my experience in the last projects the setup on the Microsoft side can also take a few more days AFTER the confirmation mail was received.

I don't know why but already had a few customers telling me that it took up to two weeks after the mail from Microsoft was received. I also read it several times in TechNet in the past.

So maybe you should just wait a few more days when you are sure that the information you provided in the PIC process are correct.

    Regards
    Dirk

  • As I said I am now in the "waiting" period to see if the situation resolves itself in the next days/weeks. Otherwise I will contact support at PIC to get this going.

The thing is I Skype Directory Search IS working from my network and I can add Skype Clients.  Only I cannot search for my S4B users from skype clients and friend requests aren't received for Skype clients I add to my list.

All configuration steps have been done and rechecked 3 times and all is great on connectivity analyzer in regards to certificate and all that.

Will keep waiting for a while... thanks!

  • Hi,

I don't think it works the other way (search SFB users from SKype end users).

Regarding friend request, it only works if Skype users have logged in with their fully email address used to register in Skype. Most people only login with Skype username, which wont work.

It could be that their privacy has been set to not allow other to contact them.

You could try to create a new Skype account using live ID and test.

This is what I ended up during my testing at least.

I've tried with my personnal microsoft account and a brand new skype account and still no dice.

Privacy is public on both accounts. I tried logging in with username, full email and user@skypeids.net but same results.

  • After successful login using e-mail address, please wait up to 24 hours before you see any friend request in the skype account. Give it another check today or at latest tomorrow to see if its a go.
