EMERGENCY! Multiple Customers Reporting Outlook Opens and Then Closes Immediately This Morning RRS feed

  • This just started this morning 7/15/20.  Outlook opens, shows the folders, and then immediately closes.  We have about 20 Outlook programs doing this now, and more reported every hour.  We have done the following:

    1)  Run Office Repair.  No change.

    2)  Run Office Full Online Repair.  No change.

    3)  Uninstalled Office 365, and reinstalled.  No change.

    3)  Ran Outlook in Safe Mode.  Will open.

    4)  Disable all Outlook Add-ins.  Will not run (no change).

    5)  Uninstall Symantec Endpoint.  No change.

    I'm out of ideas.  Help would be appreciated.

  • Just a follow-up on this.  Microsoft issued a patch that corrected the issue.

  • BAD Outlook Update 7/14/2020

    Rolling back to prior version clears this up:

    In CMD CD to: \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun


    officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12827.20470

    This updates to 6/24/20 

    Version 2005: June 24   Version 2005 (Build 12827.20470)

    Version 2006: June 30  Version 2006 (Build 13001.20266)

    Version 2006: July 14  Version 2006 (Build 13001.20384) ç Error Version!

    MSFT needs to test more before releasing!   No excuse for this!

    I just spend a few HOURS hunting this down!

  • Known, but no solution given by MSFT...... Use the roll-back [see below] to revert to the prior version until MSFT gets their act together.

      It happened because of the Outlook 365 7/14/2020 update.

    Sorry for the inconvenience that Outlook causes to you.

    From the official document, Active Investigation into Outlook Crashing on Launch, it seems that the new symptom of Outlook crashing on launch is a known issue starting on 7/15/2020. A fix has been published but will take time to propagate to worldwide availability. As a workaround, you could temporarily use Outlook web mail or revert to an earlier version of Outlook. Besides, please keep an eye on the update from Microsoft. Thanks for your patience. Hope this issue could be resolved soon.
