  • How do I move an entire folder within Sharepoint Server 2007?

  • Two options:

    If you are asking about a library, open the Windows Explorer view of the library and drag and drop or cut and paste the folder. If you are moving between two libraries then open a Windows Explorer view for each one and drag or cut and paste between them.

    If you have the Publishing features enabled for the Site Collection then you can use Site Actions, Manage Content and Structure and move folders in both lists and libraries.

  • Thanks.  I don't seem to have the option within Actions to open in Windows Explorer view.  The site is a SharePoint Portal and I am trying to move folders from one documents "page" to another.

  • Under Site Actions the options are Create; Edit Page; Site Settings.  I could not find Manage Content and Structure.  Sorry, I am very new to Sharepoint...

  • You go to your Document Library. From there you click on the "Action" from the library's menubar where "New" and/or "Settings" buttons are located. Under Actions menu, you should be able to find an option to open it in Explorer.

  • Manage Content and Structure is only availble in Publishing template sites. You may be working in a Team Site.

    Windows Explorer should be available from the Actions menu:

  • thanks for sticking with me on this.  i have since watched a number of sharepoint training videos and still not gotten it.  i'll attach a screen shot of the actions and settings that are offered.  i do not have the options you illustrated above.

  • yes, i'm afraid so.  i have tried on a pc and mac.  it must be the version of the software or b/c it is a "team" site as suggested above.  maybe the feature is not offered?

  • I use a team site as well and don't have this issue but I don't recall at this point enabling any specific feature for that option.

    Just out of curiosity, is it isolated to that library only or does that problem exist in other libraries as well? Are you able to get the option to edit items in data sheet mode from any of your lists? That's also available from the "Actions" menu of the list.

    If you can't use the data sheet, it's possible that your computer doesn't have Microsoft Office Web Component 2003 installed. The data sheet option needs an ActiveX that's installed as part of that web component and it's typically installed by default when you install Microsoft Office applications. I'm not sure if the Explorer mode requires the ActiveX or not, but you can test it out. Here's the download link for it.


    BTW, are you using Windows 7 64-bit PC when browsing the site? If so, make sure you're not using IE 64-bit.
