Windows Photo Viewer Permissions

Question
-
I just bought a new laptop with Win 8 64 bit and suddenly am unable to open any of my image files via Windows Photo Viewer.
Yesterday, prior to the Win Update, everything was working fine. Today, nothing. I have tried taking ownership of the folder containing the images and it still won't open. The images are not encrypted and changing permissions for each image one by one does not help either. This is true for images that were downloaded from the internet to this hard drive, as well as images on removable hard drives.
Also, after this update, I am no longer able to run any .exe files to install programs unless I right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Is there any way to revert my computer prior to these updates? Or how can I change the permissions to view these pictures?
Thanks.Wednesday, March 12, 2014 10:30 PM

Hi,
Please let us know your image format.
Since an update that you recently installed caused problems with your laptop, as S.Sengupta mentioned above, we can use restore your PC:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
If the issue persists, I would like to know if the error appeared when the image cannot be open by Windows Photo Viewer.
Also,I suggest you re-associate the image format with Windows photo viewer.
1.Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs.
2.Click Windows Photo Viewer, and choose defaults for this program, check the image format, and then click Save.
3.Next,click Windows Photo Viewer again, and click Set this program as default.Regards,
Kelvin Xu
