Windows Steadystate Screensaver RRS feed

  • Question

  • I work for a local shire and We have 2 Public Library computers installed with Windows Steadystate. Recently the Librarians asked if we could change the Screensaver to Marquee with " Please Ask Librarian Before Using " but after unlocking profiles i found that the Publics profile didnt have a Screensaver Tab in the Display panel after some searching Through the Registry Editor to see if NoDispScrSavPage was set i didnt find any instance of the registry entry for it i have come to a brick wall of how to set the screen saver and without the Screensaver Tab in the Display panel i cant set it. The Display panel has the Screensaver Tab available to the Administrator only

Hi, you can find the following path in regedit:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

If NoDispScrSavPage does not appear in the right panel, you can create the DWoRD. If the value is set to 1 this will disable the screen saver tab. You can change the value to 0.

Meanwhile, based on my test, Screensaver tab also available in Power User group or Restricted User group. For further screensaver related issue, I recommend you post in Windows XP newsgroup and Windows Vista forum:

  • I too have the same issue of no screensaver tab being visible.  I have looked at the suggested fix and that does not work.  I have run regedit and attempted to change the NoDispScrSavPage, enter 0, ensure its as decimal press ok and then get the following message on screen: "cannot edit NoDispScrSavPage: Error writing the values new contents"
Its like there is a block modifying the registy.  Any ideas on a way to fix this?  I am logged in as the administrator.

This machine is a windows xp sp3 - fresh installation. Installed Windows steadystate - 1 user, currently no restrictions except to limit the websites that the machine accesses.

    Regards
