MDT 2012 Format & Partition RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried to disable default task "Format And Partition", added the script with diskpart (read somewhere on the forums):

    select disk 0
    select partition 1
    format fs=NTFS Label="System" Quick
    exit

but my wizard is stop after restart step of "Install Operating System" and next applications not installed.

What may be the reason of this situation?

    Does anyone help me??

    Regards.

  • Formatting a single partition in MDT Litetouch "NewComputer" is a scenario that was never tested by Microsoft. *NEW*Computer is about wiping the machine and starting from scratch.

IF you want to persist some state of the machine, I would recommend looking at the MDT "Refresh" scenario, where MDT Litetouch.vbs is launched from the previous machine. That will only wipe away the c:\drive.

  • Hi,

maybe this helps? It's a different thread on the forums. The last post in the thread is the most interesting:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/76c87da6-a050-4679-92a5-da670481b535/dual-boot-macs-fail-sms-task-sequencer-after-upgrading-to-mdt2012?forum=mdt

In short. Modify your customsettings.ini with

    DONOTFORMATPARTITION=yes

And keep your Format and partition task enabled and make sure you are applying to the correct Disk/partition.

    Hope it helps.

  • The MDT diskpart does more than just format the disk.  It also configures several deployment variables that MDT uses to find the target partition.  My first guess as to why you're failing is that you have your label as System, but in MDT, by default, the Apply Image step is configured to deploy to label variable OSDisk.

You can configure your target partition on the Apply Image by instead selecting specific disk and partition, though my best experiences in MDT have always been through variable deployment.  Try instead configuring your label to OSDisk and retest.
