VM Backup failing after host upgrade to windows 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Team,

I'm in the process of upgrading Hyper-V 2012R2 cluster to Windows 2016. Cluster uses CSV and DPM 2012 R2 for backup. So far I have rebuilt one node to 2016 and rejoined it to the cluster. VM operations work fine, however VM backups are failing with DPM error:

An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909FF)

On the host I can see:

VDS Basic Provider Error event 1: Unexpected failure. Error code: 48F@01000003

Any clues? Is there an ODX disable patch needed like for Win 2012R2?

    Thanks, Marcin

  • So not really a fix, but managed to resolve it by upgrading:

    1. DPM to 2016 CU4

    2 Upgrading all agents

    3. Changing VMs configuration version from 5.0 to 8.0 (2016 level)

    4. Finally moving to RCT backups.
