External website forwarding not working inside domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • So here's the scenario:

    Server 2008 R2 DC xyzinc.com

Exchange 2010 Server for xyzinc.com in same domain

Externally hosted website (www.xyzinc.com) is setup to forward to new (also externally hosted) website (but on different host) (eg www.xyz-abcinc.com).

Forwarding works fine from outside of the domain, but internally when browsing to www.xyzinc.com it does not forward although users have no problem bringing up the original site. However, from inside the domain users can go to the new www.xyz-abcinc.com site directly, it just doesn’t forward from the old site like it does from the outside.

As DNS is configured to allow the old site (xyzinc.com) to be seen from inside the domain, and the host is handling to forwarding to the new site, is there any other configuration I need to do on the server side?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Wrwynn,>> is there any other configuration I need to do on the server side?

Did you mean that you want user to enter www.xyznic.com and it could be resolved by local DNS server through forwarder?

If yes, you could create CNAME to achieve the goal, please enter Alias name to www.xyznic.com, and enter target host FQDN to www.xyz-abcinc.com.

    Best Regards

  • Hi,

IIS site redirection will help in redirecting the same. create a dummy website in IIS and point the internal www.xyzinc.com to dummy website in IIS and configure that same website to redirect www.xyz-abcinc.com which must be resolve from internal with public address of the website.

    hope this helps.
