Windows 8 Won't Shutdown, Restart, or Sign Off RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have run into a highly annoying issue. Windows 8 hangs on shutdown, restart, or sign off. This just started occurring. If I shutdown from the login screen it works, but once in the system, it fails. I can restart from a command line, but I need to be able to shutdown normally. No new programs have been installed.

    Regards,

    Kelly

  • It was my External Hyper-V network adapter. Since it was tied to the only one I had in the machine, once I removed it, everything worked fine. I am getting a dedicated physical NIC tomorrow to add into my machine for Hyper-V use.

  • It looks like it was tied to my Hyper-V Virtual Switch. I have only one NIC in the machine and once I deleted the External Switch, it shutdown as expected. Very frustrating, as I need the external connection for testing.

  • Upgrade the network adapter driver and see if it helps.

  • Thanks Arthur, but the driver is already up to date. I am getting a second physical adapter installed to dedicate to Hyper-V.

  • What applications do you have installed that might be running?

  • Kelly,

What board make/model and what manufacturer's NIC?

We have a number of Intel boards with Win8 client and Hyper-V installed and have not had this issue.
