Schedule restart for client computers RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

What is the best way to schedule a restart for client computers managed with CM 2012. I would like to restart a set of computers at our site at 11 PM on daily basics.

  • I would create a Scheduled Task on the Clients. You can use ConfigMgr to create the Scheduled Task though or Group Policy Objects.

If you don't want to use a Scheduled Task, then you can use a Package with an according rerun behaviour.

  • Using a simple deployment for this will cause reboots at unexpected times because the client agent will enforce deployments with deadlines in the past that have not yet been enforced for whatever reason, like the system being powered off. A better approach is to use a script for this: http://blog.configmgrftw.com/packageprogram-deployment-execution-time/

  • Create a package with no source files and a program that runs shutdown.exe; advertise the program
