Rebooted clients do not reconenct RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have launched a long term scan (two weeks of data required) and noticed that when a client reboots, it does not reenter the scan. Some of the servers (and most critical ones at that) reboot every night as part of a maintenance procedure. I have no ability to influence this behavior. Is there a work around to this? Is this normal behavior?

  • This is normal behavior. If you can, install MAP on a computer that doesn't reboot every night.   If you can't do that, you'll need to restart MAP manually each day.

  • The MAP collection server doesn't reboot but only the monitored computers.

  • How are you determining data isn't collected from these targets after they reboot? What's the last error reported for those targets in the performance reports?

  • The summary screen shows three statistics:

    1. Total inventoried servers
    2. Total servers successfully inventoried
    3. Total servers reported at last checkin

    #1 showed 59

#2 showed 58 (we knew one was going to fail)

#3 showed 57 for the first day. After the first day, it showed 49 (seven of which we knew rebooted regularly).

#3 never increased after each checkin (set for 5 minutes with a 1 hour refresh, default settings) indicating the servers are not polled anymore after they reboot.

When we pulled the seven day data, we found that those seven servers we knew rebooted only reported in on the first day. Further confirming that they did not get polled again.

  • In the PerfMetricResults report, on the CollectionStatistics workbook, what do the machines that failed have in the Last Collection Status column?
