PDF attachments Not opening, not able to print, not able to save RRS feed

  • Question

  • We switched to Exchange server 2013 last November. Ever since then, with no real pattern, my users have reported that some PDF attachments either will not open because of an error that says its corrupt, or not all pages show, or my user is unable to save it... Actually a multitude of errors but once the user forwards the email to themselves.. the PDF attachment is just fine.

Has anyone else experience this??? I am at my wits end.

  • Hi,

As the issue is intermittent, do you have a number of load balanced CAS servers? If so, please check each one in turn by opening OWA using https://CAS1/owa and see if this issue is limited to just one or two CAS servers. Also, check that your OWA settings are the same.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

Please can you ensure that Exchange is running the latest cumulative update. This is currently CU10.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,
Does the issue occur on OWA?

Please confirm whether the issue happens to all users or specific users to narrow down the issue to client side or server side.

I noticed the PDF attachment will work fine when the problematic user forwards the email to others.

I suggest you can recreate a new outlook profile to test.

Also follow Mark's suggestion to upgrade exchange 2013 CU10.

    Regards,

    David

  • Yes I have just updated to CU10 and the problem continues.. and yes the PDF attachments also seem to open better once forwarded to other users not just themselves. I cannot confirm that it is happening to all my users as some of my users do not deal with PDFs on a regular basis but it is happening to a majority of them me included. I have noticed that sometimes I can open these Pdfs using the Email client on my Iphone. And yes the problem also happens on a OWA client.  And just to be clear it is not happening all the time... some days all PDFs for users open just fine..and then when they go back to the emails again on a different day.. the PDFs do not open.

    Very frustrating..
