Definition deployment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

We are planning to use FEP in a SCCM environment with WSUS integrated in SCCM. The SCCM environment has several distributionpoints.
My question: Are/can those distributionpoints also be used for definition updates? Or are definition updates always deployed from the central WSUS server, which in this case is also the SCCM server?

Softwareupdates/patches and OS/software deployment are done from the distributionpoints. I would say the same could happen for definition updates. But i have not seen any information about that being a possibility. Perhaps because SCCM doesnt have a deployment mechanism for definition updates perhaps.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • Hi,

As definition updates for FEP is handled through WSUS technically you could use SCCM/WSUS to approve and deploy the updates as normal Software Updates but there is no way of approving the updates automatically. SCCM has no built-in feature for this until next version SCCM 2012!. You could auto-approve them in two ways

    1. Automatically approve the definition updates in WSUS, this will not let you utilize the SCCM infrastructure you will get the definition updates deployed from the WSUS/SUP http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd185652.aspx

    2. Kim Oppalfens have created a tool that solves your issue so you can utilize the DP's http://www.myitforum.com/absolutenm/templates/Articles.aspx?articleid=20071&zoneid=89
