automatic replies on exchange 2010

Question
-
Hi,
we have just installed SBS 2011 with Exchange 2010. It was a small network so the email was migrated by backing up to PST. Everything is okay apart from OOF. We've ticked the right boxes so internal works but for external the following error occurs: "553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.5.3 - check user)" Checked lots of things but not getting anywhere. Can someone please help?

The smart host must be rejecting the email for some reason. Their NDR doesn't make it clear why, so you will have to ask them.
As a rule, I don't recommend enabling automatic replies to the Internet as it puts the server at risk of an email loop.

That isn't an Exchange error, so it is coming from somewhere else. When exactly do you get that error? For external OOTO there is only one option to enable, once done, nothing else should be required.
Are you using a smart host, or the POP3 connector?

I'm using a smart host. The error only occurs when a user switches on 'automatic replies'.

Okay, thanks for that Simon. I've done a lot of work on this and you are confirming what I was suspecting. Just needed a bit of reassurance as I'm not too experienced with this sort of error. Thanks again.
