DPM 2016 - Already out of disk space RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new to DPM 2016 (although I have been running DPM 2012 for many years).

I have recently installed a new DPM 2016 server, running on top of Windows Server 2016.  My DPM server is not a VM.  My physical server has 21 x 1TB disk.  I've created a Windows Storage Pool containing all 21 disks, and then created a Windows Virtual disk (with parity) for the DPM storage volume.  This gives me a 15.2TB volume.

I've added this volume to DPM.  DPM has formatted the volume using ReFS, and sees the volume as being 15,567GB in size.

Next, I created two protection groups.  One for protecting my file servers.  These file servers have the DPM agent installed, and I am backing up the Shares from these servers.  The second protection group is for backing up VMs.  I currently have 2 VMs added to this protection group.  This configuration has been running now for about 2 weeks.

However, I am not done,  I have several other VMs which I need to protect.  But, I cannot add anything to my protection groups anymore, because DPM says that I am out of disk space.  That is not possible!!!  Yet, if I look under "Management / Disk Storage", it says the following:

    Total capacity : 15,567GB

    Used capacity: 32,255GB ?????

    Remaining capacity: 0KB.

    % Unused: -107%

Using powershell, I was able to find the replicasize of everything I am currently backing up on this DPM server.  They all add up to 3340 GB.  What is going on ????  Why does my DPM server think that I am out of disk space?  If I look at the Windows Volume, it says that I am using 2.68TB of the 15.2TB (12.5TB free).

    Has anyone seen this before?

  • Hi, I had the same problem. I solved it by installing Update Rollup 2 for System Center Data Protection Manager (KB3209593).

    best regards:))

  • Hey, on the upside though, i can't create any new protection groups anyway due to this:

  • As per: remove the disk from the storage pool, create a volume and add it.
